4. How RI Size Flexibility Works
Standard regional RIs are size-flexible within the same instance family. AWS normalizes by size: xlarge = 8 units, 2xlarge = 16 units (2x).
AWS applies discounts hour by hour, not at month end: Each hour, RI is applied first, then SP, then the rest is on-demand. That is why you see OD hours every day, not just at the end of the month.
